Ingredients

- Pitted Medjool Dates – Naturally sweet and chewy, they serve as the core of the recipe, providing fiber, essential minerals, and a natural source of energy.
- Butter – Used to brown the kataifi dough to add some additional flavor and crispness. You can alternatively use coconut oil instead.
- Dry Kataifi – A crisp, shredded phyllo dough that adds a delicate crunch to the texture while providing a light source of carbohydrates. I ordered my dry kataifi off amazon but i’m sure you can also find these at a middle eastern grocery store.
- Pistachio Butter or Cream – Adds a creamy, nutty depth of flavor, boosting protein, fiber, and heart-healthy fats. Pistachio cream tends to have some added sugar and used in the original dubai chocolate recipe while pistachio butter does not have any added sugar. Use whatever you prefer depending on your health goals! I used pistachio cream and I got it off amazon but you can also find this ingredient at a middle eastern grocery store
- Tahini – Provides a slightly bitter, earthy contrast while adding calcium, iron, and healthy fats.
- Dark Bittersweet Chocolate Chips – Lends deep cocoa intensity with antioxidants and a lower sugar content than milk chocolate.
- Coconut Oil – Aids in smooth chocolate melting and coating, offering medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) for quick energy.
- Roasted Pistachios, Crushed – Brings a crunchy garnish with extra protein, fiber, and essential vitamins. Also adds a pop of color to make these dates stand out!

Instructions

Step 1: Start by opening up your pitted dates and place them on a plate.
Step 2: Add 2 teaspoons of butter to a small pan on medium heat. When the butter melts, add in your dry kataifi. Stir and cook for 2-3 minutes until the kataifi begins to turn golden brown and then turn off the heat.

Step 3:Next, add in your pistachio cream or butter and tahini. Stir using a small rubber spatula to avoid scraping your pan until everything is well combined and then place mixture into a small bowl.
Step 4: Add about 1 teaspoon of the pistachio paste filling into the middle of each date.

Step 5: Add your dark bittersweet chocolate chips into a small microwave-safe bowl along with your coconut oil. Microwave for 30 seconds and then stir. Microwave for another 15 seconds and stir. Repeat until your dark chocolate is nice and melty.
Step 6: Use a spoon to drizzle the melted chocolate on top of each date.

Step 7: Add your roasted pistachios to a bag, use a utensil to crush the pistachios into small pieces. Add the crushed pistachios on top of the dates. You can also add some of the dry kataifi on top as well!
Step 8: Refrigerate for 45 minutes-1 hour until the chocolate is set or place in the freezer for 15-30 minutes. Enjoy!
Hint: Make sure not to overcook or burn the kataifi. The kataifi should be slightly browned but not super dark in color.
Hint: Be careful not to burn yourself when you are heating up the chocolate. Use a rubber glove to carry the bowl and mix in between heating.
Substitutions
- Dairy-Free – use pistachio butter (no added ingredients), dairy-free chocolate and only coconut oil instead of butter to make this recipe dairy-free.
